This past week has been a bit overwhelming…in a good way though.
It’s so easy to just get caught up in life. To lose yourself in the madness of being busy. To push things or people aside because something else is penciled in the calendar. I’m guilty of this, and I’ve said it time and time again…I’m not proud of it. Trying to find this balance in life is so difficult! Maybe it’s just me. I just have to take a moment and give major props to all the photographers who are married and have kids, or even have another job…I don’t know how you do it, but teach me your ways. Seriously.
In the midst of all this craziness in our lives…we are hit with something hard. Something you can’t ignore. Something that makes you stop and realize just how precious this life is. After hearing the heartbreaking news about the Colorado shooting, I found myself truly aching inside. I often forget how short and precious this life is. The thought of just going to a movie and then losing your life…it overwhelms me.
Only days later I am given the opportunity to document something so opposite. Something so beautiful. Something that overwhelms me with the same amount of emotion…but a different kind of emotion. It sounds so simple: I photograph weddings for a living. But my oh my…after this weekend I am immediately reminded that what I do is so much more than just photographing a wedding. I am given the opportunity to really love on my couples…to get to know them beyond what any stranger would normally be able to. I really fall in love with couples. I get sad when some of their wedding days are over.
Whether it’s hearing devastating news or photographing the beginning of something so beautiful…they both overwhelm me equally. They both make me realize how beautiful and precious this life is. We don’t have much time here…enjoy it. Don’t let the it slip through your fingers.
xoxo.
