I love doing this contest. At first I was a little hesitant to do this contest again this year…but after some thinking, I knew it was the best choice to give out this opportunity to some awesome couple. Last year, my contest winners became my dear friends…I plan on the same thing happening this year. One of the amazing things about being a photographer is that I get to meet so many different people and sometimes I get to travel to places in this world that I thought I’d never visit. I’m very spoiled.
I am BEYOND THRILLED to announce this years winners. From the time their unique love story appeared in my inbox…to the few brief emails exchanged back and forth…I had no doubts that this was the couple who would win my contest. And the location of this wedding just happens to be an extra HUGE bonus ; ) …
(DRUM ROLL PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
It is my pleasure to introduce you all to Melissa and Coburn…

Part of the assignment was not only to submit your love story, but to choose a word that best describes you…as a couple and incorporate it into a photo. They obviously chose the word CRAZY, which I think is absolutely perfect and fitting for them. In one of Melissa’s emails to me she said….
“It was crazy how we met, crazy how we dated, crazy how we live, crazy what we do. 🙂 We don’t like to settle for the usual, ordinary, typical, we like to be outside the box and live radically different. So we decided the word “crazy” fit!”
Talk about my type of couple. I just love them. Without even meeting them I know that they are both natural givers. They’ve dedicated their lives to serving and meeting the needs for the less fortunate and living a life to encourage and develop relationships. They both met in Nicaragua…Coburn being in the Peace Corps and Melissa living in and helping run her parents non-profit organization. After my recent trip to Africa, I couldn’t feel more connected to this couple. I was given a taste of what life should really be like….giving and giving and when you think you can’t given any more…you do. I am so excited to be a part of this couples special day which will take place in Melissa’s parents backyard in Managua, Nicaragua.
“The ceremony will start at sunset, we have a beautiful view.. then carry on into the night with the reception. We will have a live Latin band, fireworks going off during our first dance, Christmas lights and lanters for lighting, tropical plants for decoration and a bi-lingual, multi-cultural event going on!”
YUP. I’M EXCITED.
*** In other news, I will be leaving the country early tomorrow morning for my 2nd to last wedding for 2011! I am so excited for this wedding and I’m also excited to soak up as much sun as I can before coming back to this wet Seattle weather. Please be patient with me…I will not be on my computer much during this time! I will get back to all emails as quickly as I can. THANK YOU.
Woo woo!! Sounds like this wedding is going to be awesome, and that you won as well! 🙂
woo hoo – congratulations Melissa and Coburn!
Congrats to the lucky and wonderful couple!!! 🙂
