The people.
It’s always been about the people. From the first time I picked up a camera, it was always people I wanted in front of my lens. Getting through my “product/food” and “architecture” classes in school was always a challenge. To me, it was just hard to tell a story without the interaction of a human in my photos. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about my life, my business…where I want it to go, what I would like it to look like. The one answer that has remained the same is that there always has to be people involved in my work. Whether that means telling people’s wedding stories for the next 10 years, moving into commercial fashion/lifestyle someday, or even moving into a completely different area of work…all I know is there has to be people. There has to be people who inspire me. People who move me. People who change me…and just people who challenge me to look at the world a little differently.
This past week or two has been a tough, yet amazing one. From personal life changes to photographing a beautiful adoption story…to capturing a wedding day that had to be moved up because of a mother with terminal cancer…to another wedding where capturing the details/events that happened in remembrance of a lost father were my most important tasks. I woke up this morning being thankful for life. Being thankful for the all the beautiful moments I get to be a part of through being a photographer…but also being thankful for all the hardships and heartaches I have to witness as well. Each experience teaches me something. The biggest lesson of course being that life is too damn short. I don’t mean to get all deep and mushy in this post, but I couldn’t help but express myself through the blog this morning. It’s been awhile since I’ve done that…I’d say it was overdue.
I’ll never care more about the wedding details, which dress designer the bride is wearing, or even all the DIY projects at a wedding (which are awesome, don’t get me wrong)…but I’ll always care more about the people. Their story. Their love. Their connection in front of my camera.
No matter where my life takes me, I hope that this one thing remains the same. It’s always about the people.
