A few days ago I was doing my nightly routine of scrolling through Pinterest before I drifted off into my world of dark, peaceful silence…also known as sleep. I came across a few quotes about FEAR. (see quotes below picture) They stopped me in my tracks and left my mind going in circles thinking about how much that word has stopped me from certain things in my life. From personal relationships to business decisions…I’ve let that stupid four letter word slow me down and second guess my gut feelings. I think back to the years when I was in school and literally everything seemed possible. I hustled…I was hungry and fearless. Some may call that being young and naive, but damn…I’d give anything to have that fearlessness back.
On the exterior, it may seem like we all have it together. With all the social media outlets, it seems as if everyone is living a life of only joy and happiness…surrounded by super cool people and endless cups of cool looking coffee. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m completely guilty of this very thing. I don’t think it’s necessarily a *bad* thing either…why shouldn’t we share the things in our lives that make us happy right? This is more of a personal issue that I am dealing with, but I feel that the more we portray this perfect life…the more we ignore the things that really need to be addressed in our lives. At least with me that is definitely the case.
Heartbreak. Loss of trust. Lack of clarity. Decline in confidence.
These are all things I struggle with and saying them out loud is freakin’ scary. But it’s out there now and for me that is just one step closer to overcoming the things I have fear in. It’s been awhile since I’ve shared a personal post on this blog and it feels good to get back at it. This blog started with me talking about whatever came to my mind. There was hardly a filter and that felt good. I’m discovering more and more that I don’t need or want to be a *certain way* just for business gain.
Some of you may know that I recently made a temp-move to New York for a few months. I am still here and I’m honestly loving every second of this experience. I’ve learned so much about myself and how important it is to really surround yourself with the right people. People who make you want to do better. People who encourage you and truly want to see you succeed…and they *voice* it. I felt I was in such a rut in Seattle and just needed to get away. I absolutely LOVE Seattle and I will be back soon, but I am so grateful for the time I’ve had away from it all. I’m excited to come back with clear eyes and a rejuvenated spirit.
I know I can’t be the only one letting fear stop them from certain things in life…
What are the things YOU fear?
– Everything you want is on the other side of fear.
– Don’t lose yourself in your fear.
– Never let the sadness of your past and the fear of your future ruin the happiness of your present.
– Let your faith be bigger than your fear.
– Having fear is natural. But letting it stop you from going after your dreams is a tragedy.

This is amazing. I love that you shared this. I think we all struggle with a lot of the same fears. My biggest fear is failure and rejection, especially with business, it’s so easy to sit around and compare my work to others and feel like it will never reach the level I want it to. Then I use that as an excuse to hold back and not dive in the way I should. I definitely self sabotage a lot on that level. Thank you for posting this 🙂 Very inspiring, we all need to have a little more of “dammit let’s do this” attitude.

I feel you! Especially reflecting on the loss of confidence and fearlessness that I discovered in myself in my post secondary years. Leaving school and joining the “real world” where everybody is NOT rooting for you, where its hard to find the people “on your team,” and where nobody notices your small successes takes its toll. I’ve had to fight through it this year – professionally and personally, as I’ve lost a lot of social confidence as well as confidence in my ability to do my creative work.
I’m feeling better though, and stronger for having worked through that stuff.
